When you drink enough water or other healthy drink alternatives, it helps get rid of toxins and keeps your skin feeling fresh. Try to get in at least eight glasses a day. If you want something a little different, toss in some fruits like lemon or cucumber into your water. 

You can also munch on hydrating foods like watermelon and cucumbers to help boost your water intake. Plus, don’t forget to use hydrating skincare products like serums and gels with hyaluronic acid; this ingredient is awesome for locking in moisture and keeping your skin soft and smooth. 

2. Find the Best Sunscreen For Your Skin Type


Sunscreen is super important for keeping your skin safe from those nasty UV rays that can lead to sunburn, early skin ageing, and even skin cancer. Make sure to go for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 so you’re protected from both UVA and UVB rays. 

If your skin tends to be oily or prone to acne like mine, pick a non-comedogenic and oil-free option to avoid breakouts. If you have sensitive skin, mineral SPFs that have zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are great options and a safer choice since they tend to be gentler on the skin. 

Don’t forget to reapply every two hours, especially if you’re swimming or sweating, to keep your protection going strong. If you’ll be active outdoors, water-resistant formulas are the way to go. And remember to slather it on generously to all the exposed areas, including spots like your ears, the back of your neck, and even the tops of your feet. It’s a good idea to carry a travel-sized bottle in your bag for those quick touch-ups! 

3. Go For Lightweight Makeup Options


Ditch the heavy foundations and powders for something lighter that won’t feel all cakey or clog your pores. BB creams, tinted moisturisers, and CC creams are perfect for summer because they provide light coverage and let your skin breathe. Plus, a lot of them have SPF for some extra sun protection. Go for cream-based blushes and highlighters—they blend easily and give you that fresh, dewy look. 

For your eyes, waterproof mascara and eyeliner are a must to avoid any smudging in the heat. A tinted lip balm adds a nice splash of colour without the weight of regular lipstick. And don’t forget to keep some blotting papers handy to tackle any shine without piling on more makeup. 

 4. For Smooth Skin, Don’t Skip Exfoliation


Gently removing dead skin cells through exfoliation is an excellent method for improving your skin's appearance. It can really brighten up your complexion and keep your pores clear, which helps prevent breakouts

In the summer, it’s a good idea to tweak your exfoliation routine since you sweat and produce more oil. If you want to keep your skin fresh, give a gentle scrub or a chemical exfoliant like glycolic or salicylic acid a shot a couple of times a week. These ingredients help break down dead skin without being too harsh. 

If you have sensitive skin, stick with milder options like lactic acid or enzyme-based exfoliants. Just be careful not to overdo it, as that can irritate your skin and make it more sensitive to the sun. And don’t forget to follow up with a good moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated!

If you have oily or combination skin, go for oil-free products that moisturise without clogging your pores. Using a moisturiser with built-in SPF is a smart move for extra sun protection. Be sure to apply your moisturiser immediately after your shower to seal in the moisture and maintain soft, smooth skin throughout the day! 

6. Protect Your Hair, Not Just Your Skin


 The summer sun can significantly affect your hair, making it dry and fragile. To keep it in check, try adding some UV protection to your hair routine with leave-in conditioners or sprays that have sunscreen in them. Try to make it a weekly routine to carry out a deep conditioning treatment to replenish moisture and address any damage. 

If you’re going to be outside for a while, throw on a wide-brimmed hat or a scarf to help block out the sun. And if you're a regular swimmer, make sure to rinse your hair with fresh water before jumping into chlorinated pools or the ocean to help reduce hair damage. Switching to a clarifying shampoo once a week can also help get rid of any buildup from sunscreen, chlorine, or salt. 

7. Stay Cool with Facial Mists


Facial mists are a super-easy way to give your skin a quick refresh during those hot summer days. You can spray them on whenever you want for an instant cooling feeling and a boost of hydration. Look for mists with beneficial ingredients like rose water, aloe vera, or chamomile to soothe any irritation. 

Plus, a lot of them have antioxidants to help protect your skin from environmental stress. Having a travel-sized bottle in your bag or on your desk means you can spritz whenever you need to feel fresh. For an extra cool kick, try storing your facial mist in the fridge!

If you plan to paint your toenails, begin by applying a base coat to keep them from getting stained, then finish with a top coat to keep the polish lasting longer.

Flip-flops are perfect for the beach, but they might not cut it for long wear since they lack support.
